Our Chicago Journalists Association is facing a financial crisis and is seeking additional funding so we may continue our numerous activities, including recognizing editors and reporters for their body of work throughout the years. Among the special honors are our $1,000 Sarah Brown Boyden competition for the most outstanding articles or series; Chicago Journalist of the Year, Lifetime Achievement and Daniel Pearl Awards.

Recently, we announced the $1,000 Dorothy Storck Award, named after the late syndicated newspaper columnist and Pulitzer Prize winner. She was also a member of our organization.

In addition, our nonprofit organization is the philanthropic arm of the Chicago Journalists Association Charitable Fund, which annually presents $1,000 scholarships to outstanding college journalism students state-wide. College students also makeup our associate board. Established several years ago, we give them an opportunity to network with journalism professionals, as well as to participate in other events. Some of them will be groomed to eventually join our executive board of directors.
Our scholarship winners are automatically granted membership to our associate board. Click on the following link to hear from our 2015 recipient, Tyler Davis, and how our scholarship helped him achieve his journalism goals: https://youtu.be/m6k_yDy3STk.

Remember, there is no democracy without journalism.

We need your support now, especially when we are experiencing the dwindling of annual dues because of deaths and financial hardship of some of our members.

And that’s the reason we are appealing for contributions from people like you, especially during this holiday season when the spirit of giving is so important. Here’s how you can make your donation:

Please visit chicagojournalists.net and click on the “Dues/Donations” tab near the top of the page. Afterward, select which amount you would like to donate from the dropdown menu: $25, $50 or $100. Once you have made your selection, click on the “Add to Cart” button. You will then be redirected to PayPal’s website, and a summary of your order will appear on the right side of the page. You have two options to “check out”, with or without a PayPal account.

If you already have a PayPal account, choose the first option and log into your account. If you don’t, you can select the second option and check out as a guest user. Follow the steps for filling in your credit card information and billing.

If you are unable to make your donation through our website, you can mail your contribution to the Chicago Journalists Association at 1800 Nations Drive, Ste. 117, Gurnee, IL 60030.

Thank you and Best wishes for the New Year.
